( A series on how men of God should be in today’s world based on Psalms 112)
Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Psalms 112:3
It is well with a man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. Psalms 112:5
We all love to have wealth and riches , to be secure in the wealth that we have and to be sure that the riches will keep us safe for the rest of our lives is one of our deepest desires. Yet have we not seen and heard the brokenness, sadness and disappointments of the rich and wealthy , have we not seen that wealth and riches do not really bring peace.
So what does wealth and riches mean in context of the Word of God. The foremost and most important aspect here is that wealth and riches are acquired through hard work and discipline , not by manipulation and fraud . For the key word is “righteousness” and when riches are acquired in the right manner it brings blessings and honour to God and His people .
So being rich is not wrong but being rich without honouring God through our actions will lead to brokenness and sleepless nights. For men of God it goes back to start of Psalms 112 , the sweet fear of the Lord and delighting in His commandments builds righteousness in our lives . This is then reflected in our work life and the excellence we intend to achieve through our work.
God then blesses our work through wealth and riches which we in turn honour Him by dealing generously with others by lending and helping those in situations worse than we are ( Psalms 112:5). The purpose of wealth and riches is not only our security but also a means of giving back to God through our generous actions.
Thus having peace and being rich and wealthy is possible for men of God, however it needs us to work diligently , conduct our affairs with justice , live righteously and honouring God by giving back to His people generously.
