What keeps a worship team together , is it the meeting up , is it the excitement of being on stage and hearing the applause ,is it the possibility of creating music or is it the pride of just being a part of something, nobody else is part of.
The above are not wrong reasons but probably not the right reasons as well. A worship team comes together for one purpose and that is to Glorify God and if that remains the main reason then everything else will pass on . The question is how do we keep that focus , let me try helping you with 3 things that have helped me -:
1. Go beyond the music
Immerse yourself in actions that will keep you close to the purpose of the gospel. Be aware of who you can help and how, others need not know what you are doing in empathy but surely God does. These actions of kindness and love help you go beyond the music and keep the team humble for the purpose God has created worship for.
2. Live for each other
Know your team , have fellowship that is meaningful , discussions that are deep and fruitful, honesty in dealing with each other, encouragement in times of trouble , joy in others victory and accomplishments and a hope of being together in eternity. If these simple relationship acts are not happening then it is time to rethink the worship team's purpose and you being part of it, probably it is time to move on . As the above acts are in play the whole team will be able to see God's hand in action through the team as they lead worship.
3. Act as Disciples
The disciples were not perfect but they learnt from their mistakes and grew in discipline and consistency to be able to Glorify God wherever they went . They did not slack once they know they were saved , once they understood the vision and they saw the purpose of their being together. A worship team is like a team of disciples learning and growing together and they get better from each difficulty, mistake or problem because the vision of eternity keeps them going.
Think over these points and look around , is the worship team disciplined in and out of Practise, are their lives building each other's faith in Christ, have they grown in consistency in what they say and do for God , are their actions going beyond the music.
Important and tough questions to keep your team going in the right direction.The one and only purpose of a worship team is to Glorify God and it is important to have checkpoints to see if the team is loosing track, so take a moment and see where you are as a worship team. May God lead you this week as you lead His people in worship.
